Temple Street Productions has received a second-season order for 26 half-hour episodes of its single-cam scripted tween drama series The Next Step from Astral’s Family Channel.
The commission comes a month after the series debuted on March 8 to Family’s largest premiere audience for any series, acquired or domestic.
Principal photography will get underway later this summer, with executive producers Frank van Keeken (Wingin’ It, Kids in the Hall), Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier (Being Erica, Recipe to Riches) leading the charge.
BBC Worldwide holds international distribution rights to the series, which is produced with financial assistance from The Shaw Rocket Fund.
