Heroes and anti-heroes are the big buzz these days, and just a week after Disney’s acquisition of Marvel, Warner Bros. is reorganizing DC Comics under the new banner of DC Entertainment.
The new company, helmed by Diane Nelson, will help bring the DC Comics brand and characters across all media and platforms and more deeply into WB. It’ll work closely with WB divisions to help build and sustain franchises across feature films, TV, interactive entertainment, direct-to-consumer platforms and consumer products.
Nelson will report to Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, and will work to capitalize on DCE’s theatrical development and production activities. She steps into her new role with more than 20 years of experience in creative brand management, strategic marketing and content development and production, and will continue to oversee franchise management of Harry Potter
Meanwhile, DC Comics president and publisher Paul Levitz is returning to his roots as a DC writer to become a contributing editor. He’ll bring his 30-plus years of history with the comics brand to be an overall consultant to DCE, advising the newly formed company on creative and rights-holder relationships.
DC Comics will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2010, and party plans will be announced in Q1 of that year.
