Ratings Watch: The N, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel

Nickelodeon’s teen-centric channel The N had a hit on its hands with the premiere of its first-ever original TV movie Degrassi Goes to Hollywood on Friday, August 14 (8-10 p.m.), ranking as the highest-rated and most-watched telecast in the net’s history with total viewers (977,000) and teens (511,000).

Over at Cartoon Network, primetime ratings and delivery continued to hit the high notes, in late July and early August, with the average kids six to 11 prime time delivery increasing by 21%, kids two to 11 delivery up by 19% and kids 9 to 14 delivery up by 20%. Across the week in total day performance, the average kids six to 11 delivery rose by 6%, kids two to 11 delivery by 5% and kids nine to 14 delivery by 12%.

Meanwhile, its live-action Wednesday night block saw BrainRush spike 63% compared to the same period last year with kids six to 11 delivery, 15% with kids two to 11 and 155% with kids nine to 14 delivery. Destroy Build Destroy drew a 45% increase with kids six to 11, 14% with kids two to 11 and 84% with kids nine to 14.

CN’s Sunday night Flicks presentation of Nacho Libre from 7p.m to 9 p.m. brought in an 18% delivery gain with kids six to 11, a 14% increase with kids two to 11 and was up 11% with kids nine to 14. Sunday also played host to Total Drama Action and Total Drama Island marathon from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., averaging 17% delivery increases among kids six to 11 and 27% delivery increases among kids nine to 14.

During the week of August 10, 2009, Disney Channel ranked as TV’s top network in total day for the fourteenth consecutive week in tweens 9 to 14 and for the eighth consecutive week in kids 6 to 11, posting double-digit percentage increases year-to-year. Competitively, the network bested runner-up Nickelodeon by 25% in tweens 9 to 14 and by 8% in Kids 6 to 11. Additionally, the network out-performed year-ago averages by 25% in total viewers, by 22% in kids 6 to11 and by 25% in tweens 9 to 14.

And Disney Channel came in as cable’s top network during the week of August 10, and was also the week’s second-most-watched network.

In tweens nine to 14, the kidnet delivered the week’s top dozen TV telecasts as well as 19 of the top 20, led by Sonny With A Chance, The Suite Life on Deck and Jonas. With kids six to 11, DC had nine of the week’s top-10 TV telecasts, and 18 of the top 20, headed up by The Suite Life on Deck and Sonny With A Chance. Friday’s new ep of Phineas and Ferb was TV’s number-one animated telecast in kids six to 11 and tweens nine to 14.

Preschool-wise, Playhouse Disney’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse found a spot in the week’s top-five TV shows in the kids two to five demo, while Handy Manny, Special Agent Oso and Imagination Movers were also in TV’s top-10 programs overall in the preschool demo.
