A duo of new animated series are being prepped for Cartoon Network airwaves, as the kidnet’s given the nod to two new original comedy series, as well as picking up more eps of The Marvelous MisAdventures of Flapjack and Adventure Time

Regular Show, created by J. G. Quintel, was first developed as a short for CN’s in-house incubator Cartoonstitute. The toon revolves around two bored groundskeepers and best friends – a blue jay and raccoon – who try to entertain themselves by any means necessary. The situations often spiral out of control when the duo stumble into portals that lead to other dimensions and wind up summoning demons via an ’80s arcade game. Prior to the pickup, Quintel served as creative director of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack for two seasons and as a storyboard artist on Camp Lazlo. The series will be produced at the kidnet’s studios in Burbank.

Meanwhile, Horrorbots follows two outsider teen droids that try to fit in at high school in a world populated by super powerful ‘bots. It was created by Michael Buckley (The Sisters Grimm) and Joe Deasy, with co-executive producer Christy Karacas (Superjail). The series will be produced in New York.

With new eps on the way for Flapjack, the total number of half-hour eps comes to 46. And CN has also commissioned another season of scripts for Adventure Time, an animated comedy about a human boy and wise dog, partners-in-crime in the land of Ooo. Also from Cartoon Network Studios, the half-hour series is created by Pendleton Ward, with Fred Siebert and Derek Drymon doing exec producer duty and is slated for a 2010 premiere.
