American Greetings Properties is keeping the Care Bear merch train on-track, having just signed a number of new North American and international licensing deals.
New US licensees include Brewster Wallpaper (fabric, infant bedding and room décor), Imperial Toys (bubbles and water toys), Jakks Pacific (kites and accessories), LF USA (girls fleece, loungewear, tees, tops and underwear) and Kellytoy (sporting goods). Hasbro also has plans to launch a brand new Care Bears toy line under its Playskool brand with the Bears’ new look in fall 2010. It’ll be available worldwide at all retailers.
In Canada, meanwhile, AGP has renewed its partnership with agency Segal Licensing, which has been handling the evergreen brand in the territory since 2006.
On the international broadcast front, AG has sealed deals with Disney Latin America, Spain, and Japan, Cartoon Network (Asia, Australia/New Zealand and Germany), and France’s 5 and PIWI.
New home video partners include Magna Home Entertainment (Australia), Studio Canal (France), Modern Times (Greece) and Cass Films (Poland). State-side, Lionsgate is also releasing four new DVDs – Tell Tale Tummies (June), Bear Buddies (September), holiday gift set (November) and a new CGI movie in 2010 called Share Bear Shines.
There’s also a number of Asian promotions that are set to kick off this year’s back-to-school season. International CB agent Medialink in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, will host a BTS retail promo at AniCom, with a Care Bears game booth for participants to walk through Care-a-Lot, take pictures with the costumed characters and play games. Traffic at the event tops 620,000 visitors.
Finally, AGP further expands Care Bears in Italy, as Fix Designs readies backpacks, belts, handbags, women’s outerwear and apparel for a spring 2010 launch and Imap Export and Trader will also rollout with backpacks, belts, and children’s apparel.
