Confirming the rumblings of a possible partnership, Disney has joined NBC Universal, News Corporation and Providence Equity Partners as an equity owner of US online video service Hulu.
The new agreement puts full-length TV series from ABC Family and Disney Channel, like Wizards of Waverly Place and Phineas and Ferb, along with other adult-skewing fare, on ad-supported Hulu.com and its distribution sites for streaming.
Select programs from the Disney Channel library will be accessible from a new Disney location on Hulu.com, as well as other library titles from Walt Disney Studios.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory review. Disney will have three seats on the Hulu Board, held by Disney president and CEO Robert Iger; co-chair, Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group Anne Sweeney, and Kevin Mayer, EVP corporate strategy, business development & technology.
