With swine flu reaching pandemic status, Mexico’s terrestrial broadcaster Grupo Televisa and Sesame Workshop are tackling the concern through four new PSAs with Muppets from Plaza Sésamo.

Working with the country’s ministry of health to develop scripts, the localized program’s education and research team have brought Pancho and Lola, along with Mexican celebs Lucero, Jorge Poza and Adrián Uribe to the small screen with messages about basic hygiene practices and to raise awareness about the virus.

The PSAs began airing on Televisa this morning, and will also be offered to several government organizations–including the ministry of health, the ministry of education, the Government Workers’ Social Security and Services Institute (el ISSSTE) and Mexico City’s public transit system – to extend the message across the country.
