Ratings Watch: Disney Channel US scores with kids and tweens

For the week of April 6 to 12, Disney Channel topped total day ratings in tweens nine to 14 (491,000/2.0 rating), raking in the kidnet’s largest audience in the daypart in seven weeks with a gain of 11% week to week.

Primetime, DC saw its 210th-consecutive week as cable’s number-one network with kids six to 11 and its 206th with tweens nine to14 (706,000/2.9 rating).

In the former category, the kidnet held two of the top three cable series with Wizards of Waverly Place coming in second with a 1.2 million/4.8 rating, and Sonny with a Chance placing third with a 1 million/4.2 rating. Hannah Montana rounded out the top five with a 984,000/4.0 rating.

With tweens, Disney Channel had three of US cable’s top-four series with Sonny with a Chance at number two with 1.1 million/4.3 rating, Wizards of Waverly Place in third with 1.0 million/4.2 rating and Hannah Montana coming in fourth with 818,000/3.3 rating.

On the preschool front, Playhouse Disney drew a record number of eyeballs in almost two years with key demos as Special Agent Oso brought in impressive ratings during its week-long programming event targeting preschoolers ages two to five. It came in as the top show in its time slot with a 20% lead on Nickelodeon with a 637,000/3.9 rating. The series saw double-digit percentage increases from last year’s numbers, spiking 23% in total viewers (1.6 million versus 1.3 million) and by 17% with kids two to five (637,000 versus 546,000).
