A new collaboration between Toronto-based prodco marblemedia and the The Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf will see the new partners creating the first animated interactive American Sign Language dictionary for kids online.
The dictionary will allow deaf children to look up vocabulary using ASL along with the English vocabulary counterpart, completely on their own.
Financed by the Inukshuk Wireless Learning Plan Fund, which supports the development of new online learning content, this media site targets kids five to seven and their parents to help them learn through live-action video and animation. The fund is on board to finance the first portion of the project.
Another feature of the site enables hearing children to learn ASL by finding words according to the English alphabet with full live-action ASL in motion rather than through photographs.
