Now in its third year, Cartoon Network’s National Recess Week, which runs from March 2 to 6, has lined up a new batch of sports and fitness celebrities to promote the cause, while continuing to give school health and wellness grants and making a nationwide effort to set the new Guinness World Record in four-square.

The activities set to take place at approximately 7,000 public and private elementary schools across the US are part of the pro-social campaign to shine a spotlight on the benefits of daily recess for kids between the ages of six to 12.

Celebs on board include NBA player and Olympic gold medalist Dwyane Wade from the Miami Heat, who is back as the national spokesperson and on-air/online PSA host for the week. Former tennis pro Anna Kournikova and health and wellness expert Jillian Michaels will also be on hand at schools in Miami and New York on Tuesday, March 3 to help set the official Guinness record for the largest simultaneous game of four-square, as CN will stage a minimum 120 concurrent games of four-square with multiple participants.

CN is committing US$100,000 to schools that signed up at www.GetAnimated.com for a chance to win one of 10 US$10,000 recess grants. Winning schools in five separate regions across the US will be selected – two schools per territory – and officially awarded the grant during the week-long celebration.

Mayors in 30 major cities across the country have officially named March 2 to 6 as National Recess Week, in an effort to encourage more schools to participate in local recess celebration events and volunteer efforts throughout the year.
