Konami Digital Entertainment-owned 4K Media has revealed that a new Yu-Gi-Oh! movie is currently in development in Japan.

As fans and retailers alike enjoy the resurgence of popular anime brand Yu-Gi-Oh!, the characters from the animated series and trading card game are heading back to the big screen in a new movie.

While there is no set release date for the film, 4K Media has confirmed that the movie is now in development.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! series is currently in its 14th year of broadcast in the US and most major markets worldwide. The animated series and brand holds particular favor with boys through its popular trading card game, its animated series and previous films.

The series is enjoying a major brand resurgence, with 4K Media signing new licensees earlier this year for a Yu-Gi-Oh! housewares line in North America.

Along with new licensees, 4K Media announced last year that it was bringing the hit series back to North America. 4K Media and Cinedigm launched the home entertainment program last year, with plans to release all 600 episodes of the series in the US and Canada, on DVD, digital and VOD platforms. The first DVD release, Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic Season 1 Boxset, is set to launch in September 2014.

4K Media is currently on the hunt for a distributor for all territories outside of Asia.
