L.A.-based Genius Brands International has appointed industry veteran Stone Newman as the brand management company’s president of global consumer products.
Newman jumps over to GBI’s newly created position from his most recent post at boutique licensing agency Art + Science International, a company he founded and grew with representation of many tech companies, character and fashion brands and fine artists.
In his new role, Newman will report to GBI president Amy Moynihan Heyward and be responsible for building consumer products programs for the company’s existing brands including Baby Genius, Secret Millionaires Club, Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 (SLAM 7) and Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab.
As global consumer products president, he will also maintain a relationship with his former company Art + Science International by continuing to manage the licensing programs repped by the agency including Psycho Bunny, From Frank, Celessence Technologies, WowWee brands, ElectroKidz, MIP and Archie Comics.
GBI subsidiary A Squared Entertainment, the company that merged with Genius Brands in 2013 to form GBI, now manages these Art + Science-repped properties as they fall outside of GBI’s wheelhouse of creating and launching purposeful content for toddlers to tweens.
One of Newman’s key additional tasks at GBI will see him appoint and oversee new global licensing agencies that will function as GBI sub-agents.
Prior to founding Art + Science International, he founded successful toy and game manufacturer Sababa Toys and worked in marketing and licensing at Hasbro Toys.
The latest GBI hire comes on the heels of the company’s appointment of Andrew Berman to SVP of global sales at its new global distribution division.
