Robert W. Hernandez has been tapped by Disney Publishing Worldwide to head up its global children’s magazine biz as SVP and GM.

Reporting to DPW president Russell Hampton, Hernandez will be charged with overseeing the division’s more than 300 magazines, including weeklies and monthlies published in 85 languages in 49 countries. He’ll be using his experience in integrated international media business as DPW moves forward with new editorial concepts and bringing its mags into the digital realm.

Hernandez comes to Disney from National Geographic Society, where he headed up its International Publishing and Alliances Division, which he founded in 1995. There, he held operational and P&L responsibilities for the global mag and book business in 37 languages, as well as working with international media companies, government officials and key institutions. He also directed the creation of new editorial concepts, products, developing new marketing and distribution initiatives.
