Ottawa, Canada-headquartered publishing and licensing company Mercury Inpress, the newest division of animation producer Mercury Filmworks, has announced the retail debut of Funny Fables, the first book series released under its premium, augmented reality book brand, Incredebooks.
The publisher has also inked a licensing deal with Mind Candy to create and deliver fully customizable, augmented reality color and activity books based on UK company’s hit Moshi Monsters IP.
Funny Fables features re-imagined stories of classic tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and The Three Little Pigs.
Currently sold across Canada at all Walmart Superstores, the hardcover interactive storybooks contain custom augmented reality experiences within its pages that can be unlocked via a free app and the camera on an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.
Aimed at kids ages three to six and parents, the storybooks’ interactive activities use colors, shapes, words and numbers to help kids improve their learning skills.
The Incredebooks brand, which was developed in partnership with Mercury Filmworks’ digital division Mercury Active, made its retail debut on July 7. Mercury Inpress is now set to debut a second release in Q4 2014 with a yet-to-be-announced Canadian mass-market retail partner and will roll out the brand across the US, Mexico and Latin America in 2015.
For the Mind Candy agreement, the Moshi Monsters: Color Alive book series will hit retail stores throughout North America in the third quarter of 2014.
Mercury Inpress currently has distribution facilities in Ottawa, Chicago, Illinois and San Diego, California, and also exclusively reps AM Productions, the third-largest producer of children’s coloring and puzzle books at mass market in North America.
