On the heels of Hasbro’s ownership stake in The Hub dropping from 50% to 40%, L.A.-based Hasbro Studios has picked Cartoon Network to be the US home of its new series Transformers: Robots in Disguise.

The latest installment in the hit Transformers franchise is set years after the final events of animated series Transformers Prime, and is expected to debut on Cartoon Network in the first quarter of 2015.

In a statement, Hasbro Studios president Stephen Davis said the series will still feature the franchise’s signature humor and adventure, but in a cooler, lighter and brighter style, based on feedback from kids.

Robots in Disguise follows the exploits of Bumblebee, who is chosen by Optimus Prime to lead a ragtag team of young Autobots into battle against a new faction of Decepticons that are threatening Earth.

Hasbro expects the series to rate well with Cartoon Network’s primetime audience of boys ages six to 11 and nine to 14.

The pick-up comes on the 30th anniversary of the Transformers franchise, which has thrived at box office this year with its fourth movie installment, Transformers: Age of Extinction. And its consumer products range also continues to perform well, particularly in categories including toys, games, apps, apparel and publishing.

The franchise’s current animated series, Transformers Rescue Bots, will keep airing in its daytime slot on the The Hub, which is about to be rebranded as Discovery Family Channel.
