Smurfs celebrate 50th with a parade

Today is the 50th anniversary of the day that the Smurfs first appeared in the comic books by Belgian cartoonist Peyo (aka Pierre Culliford).

Today is the 50th anniversary of the day that the Smurfs first appeared in the comic books by Belgian cartoonist Peyo (aka Pierre Culliford).

In honour of ‘Smurfday’, the little blue guys will be celebrating with their first apperance in the 82nd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The 47-foot-tall Smurfs will be featured in the parade that is taken in by 3.5 million spectators and more than 50 million TV viewers worldwide.

The parade is scheduled for Thursday, November 27, 2008 and is broadcast across the US on NBC, from 9 a.m to 12 p.m. in all time zones.
