With its Cartoon Network US debut (November 8) and the release of new Nintendo game extensions (November 11) just days away, SEGA of America is readying a full merch program for Sonic Boom, the first CG-animated TV series based on the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog video game character.
Master toy partner Tomy leads the way with plush, action figures, RC, role play, vehicles, and novelty items that showcase new character looks and interaction between core characters, featuring new play patterns based on both the games and TV series.
Additional licensees for the program set to roll out at Walmart, Target, Toys ‘R’ Us, JCPenney, Kohl’s and Barnes & Noble throughout next year include Archie Comics, Bioworld, Fifth Sun, Bakery Crafts, Isaac Morris and Bulls I Toy.
Also on-board are Accessory Innovations, Franco, Rubie’s Costumes, Howard Keys, teNeues and World Tech Toys for back-to-school, bedding, costumes, housewares, calendars and remote control vehicles for North America and Mexico in 2015.
For food and beverage, ICEE is launching a special Sonic Boom-branded version of its classic Blue Raspberry flavor in the US, as well as a contest tied to the November 11 North American release of Nintendo Wii U’s Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric video game. (SEGA’s second new Sonic video game title, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for Nintendo 3DS, will also launch on November 11.)
Sonic first appeared as a videogame character in June 1991 and went on to sell more than 140 million games on consoles, PCs, mobile phones and tablets.
New series Sonic Boom is a co-production between SEGA and OuiDO! Productions in France.
