With all the talk flying around lately about the safety of virtual worlds, it’s not surprising that Mattel has created Parents’ Place, an interactive tool on BarbieGirls.com.

The virtual world’s newly launched interactive tool will aid parents in setting safe online playing rules, and Mattel is hoping to set an industry standard.

The site’s parent-directed area employs Educate, Empower and Engage principles that help parents with child-appropriate settings and facilitate a kid/parent dialogue around appropriate online play. Additionally, the site’s B Smart Pact for parents and kids features questions and scenarios to teach them chat etiquette and how to protect privacy. Parents can also customize the B Smart Pact, implementing individual rewards and consequences for broken rules.
