It looks like Noddy is getting some new roommates! London, England-based brand management and production company Chorion acquired licensing agency The Copyrights Group earlier this month, bringing classic franchises including Beatrix Potter, Paddington Bear and the Flower Fairies into its fold.

Chorion MD Jane Turner says she’ll be taking a closer look at Copyrights’ portfolio in the wake of the deal to identify properties ripe for expansion, either through the production of new TV series or online entertainment, or via amped-up merch programs. And while TCG will remain planted in its own offices for the time being, the licensing and merchandising teams from both companies will be working together to explore expansion possibilities. With the ink still wet on the contract for the buy, it’s too early to say what shape new entertainment vehicles might take or which TCG properties may be targeted for a consumer products push.

Expanding into the US and Japan is still a priority for Chorion, but it has longer, more established relationships in the two markets than TCG. What the agency does bring to the growing company’s infrastructure, however, is a solid L&M business network across Europe, with some in-roads begun in Asia-Pacific and Latin America. And that should help Chorion make a bigger global splash with its existing stable of brands, which include The Mr. Men Show and Olivia.

As for staffing, Nicholas Durbridge will stay put in his role as co-founder and CEO of TCG, and there were no plans for major personnel changes at press time. But when Chorion starts building up new activity around the acquired properties, Turner says staffing up may be a consideration.
