The Beeb is heading into 2008 with three major new commissions for its youngest children’s brand, Cbeebies. Destined for BBC Two and the CBeebies digital channel, the three new preschool series revolve around themes of community, song and relationships.

First up is Carrie & David’s Popshop, an interactive 30 x 20-minute live-action music show created by Carrie and David Grant (the duo behind BBC’s Fame Academy), which will be produced by BBC Scotland. Every day, a customer calls into the shop in need of a song and with some help from Riff the Dog, CBeebies and the viewers singing along at home, they create a new pop tune.

Grandpa In My Pocket is a 26 x 15-minute live-actioner from upstart prodco Adastra Creative, headed up by Mellie Buse and Jan Page. The series tells the story of a grandfather who can make himself small and sneak into the most unlikely of places.

Finally, 3rd & Bird is the latest from Josh Selig, the mind behind hit Nick series The Wonderpets! The 52 x 30-minute series is being co-produced by CBeebies Productions and Selig’s Little Airplane Productions and will use photo-puppetry animation to tell stories about the young fowl Samuel Lovebird, his family, neighbors and friends.
