A quick glance at Activision’s newly announced revenues and one thing is clear, the introduction of next-gen platforms such as Nintendo’s Wii has been stoking game sales.The Santa Monica, California-based game publisher has announced a record 163% increase in net revenues for Q1, fiscal 2008. The company brought in US$495.5 million, compared to its US$188.1 million take in Q1 2007.
Robert Kotick, chairman and CEO of Activision, says shipping more than eight million new game units worldwide and its strong position in the third-party US handheld console market propelled the growth. And titles that have been bringing home the bacon include Guitar Hero, Spider-Man 3 and Shrek The Third.
Net income for the quarter also rebounded to US$27.8 million from US$18.3 million the year before.
