When Sander Schwartz stepped down as president of Warner Bros. Animation in May, word on the street had it he was hanging his own shingle. However, he’s packing up his bags and moving from L.A. to London to head up Sony Pictures Television International’s global production group as president of international production.

The appointment is a result of SPTI’s expanded local-language production efforts, which have so far resulted in the creation of more than 9,000 hours of programming in more than 30 countries and 13 languages.

This isn’t Schwartz’s first post with the media giant as he previously held several exec positions at Sony during a 12-year tenure before taking over at Warner Bros. Animation in 2001. From 1995 to 1999, Schwartz established and oversaw Sony Pictures kids production as EVP and GM of children’s programming for Columbia TriStar Television in L.A. He then joined SPE’s family entertainment group as the division’s first president and was responsible for the development, production and distribution of family entertainment films, TV series, home video and online content. He was also charged with the creation of character-based franchise properties for use across Sony’s multiple lines of business.
