Disney Interactive Studios has rechristened its European game development arm as Black Rock Studio. The Brighton, England-based racing game developer formerly known as Climax Racing is Disney’s first such acquisition in Europe, making it both strategically and geographically significant in accessing the talent pool throughout the UK and across Europe.

Under its former name, Black Rock Studio established itself as a leading developer of racing games, largely through work on the Moto GP and ATV Offroad Fury franchises. Disney acquired the seven-year-old company last October to complement its gaming studios in Vancouver, Canada and Salt Lake City, Utah. The division now employs more than 100 people.
