The future is nigh, and children’s TV will soon be piped directly into the backseats of minivans and jeeps. A new deal between Sirius Satellite Radio and Chrysler Group aims to see to it that Sirius Backseat TVs are included in the American car manufacturer’s 2008 model year lineup.
The service will offer satellite feeds to equipped cars, with programming from Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network available on three separate channels. So backseat passengers will be able to access SpongeBob SquarePants, Cory in the House and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends with a touch of the button.
Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Jeep Commander and the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be the first cars to sport the system, which has a suggested retail price of US$470, including the first year of service. After that, service is available for US$7 a month in addition to a regular Sirius subscription, which runs at roughly US$12.95 a month.
