Netflix wants binge-worthy holiday with Trollhunters

Twenty-six episodes of DreamWorks' new series launches next week, the highest number of simultaneously dropped eps for a Netflix original.

While consistently cagey when it comes to revealing viewing stats, Netflix isn’t shying away from the fact that its peak viewership occurs during late December and early January. Which is why the global SVOD is strategically set to launch 26 episodes—the most eps delivered of any original series at once—of DreamWorks Animation’s Trollhunters on December 23.

The highly anticipated fantasy series from renowned filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will make its Netflix debut globally.

Produced by DreamWorks Animation Television, the half-hour series follows 15-year-old Jim, who finds a magical amulet that bestows upon him the title of Trollhunter, defender of the trolls.

The voice cast features Kelsey Grammer and Anton Yelchin, who tragically died earlier this year in a car accident. (Yelchin had finished his voice work prior to the accident.)

Trollhunters is a part of an ongoing output deal between DreamWorks and Netflix. Earlier this year, an expanded pact between the two companies made DreamWorks Animation content, including a number of original series and its feature film library, available in all Netflix markets outside of China.

The premiere also follows Netflix’s recent release of original preschool series Luna Petunia, and the announcement that it would be adapting a Wattpad story into a YA film.
