Mattel welcomed its new CEO last week, but there’s another new face set to make waves at the company.

The US toy giant is releasing its first American Boy doll—Logan Everett—an 18-inch character that plays bandmate to fellow newcomer Tenney Grant.

The new dolls, both of whom portray singer-songwriters from Nashville, will hit American Girl retail locations on February 16. They kick off the 2017 launch of new American Girl characters intended to represent more personalities and backgrounds.

Logan Everett sports short brown hair and comes with an original outfit and drum set. Tenney Grant, meanwhile, comes with an exclusive outfit as well as a Scholastic-published book describing her story.

The Tenney collection also includes several music-inspired outfits and accessories, a guitar that can play three songs, a two-sided stage and a dressing room with accessories.  Fans can also visit a Tenney-dedicated site at americangirl.com/tenneyplay for free book excerpts, videos, activities, wallpaper and e-cards.

American Girl will launch additional Tenney elements throughout the year, including activities on the brand’s website, original music on its YouTube channel and retail events.

Creating more diverse characters has been on the agenda for American Girl, which, for one, launched a civil rights-themed doll last August.  The Melody character, which took more than two years to develop, also inspired the Amazon Studios-produced live-action special Melody, 1963: Love Has to Win, an American Girl Story.

A diversifying American Girl lineup also comes as the division saw sales rise 4% to US$283.9 million in Mattel’s Q4 2016. And in the prior quarterAmerican Girl Brands sales were US$125.5 million, up 14% over the prior year.
