French-Canadian pubcaster Groupe Media TFO has entered into a partnership with France-based search engine Qwant to launch Qwant Junior. The secure search engine for kids was developed with the French Ministry of Education and is aimed at kids six to 12 years old.

Qwant Junior is intended to protect kids’ privacy and security while also educating them. It doesn’t keep search histories or track users and filters out violent, drug-based and other inappropriate content. Additionally, all videos found through the search engine are played on the site, avoiding transferring kids to a possibly innapropriate third party.

The search engine will be available in Canada sometime this year and will eventually expand distribution to all French-speaking countries, bringing Groupe Media TFO content to more French speakers across the globe. The pubcaster currently operates the top French-language YouTube channel in Canada and is home to LUV, an incubator for digital educational productions for kids in Canada.
