A new family feature called The Last Dodo (pictured) is flocking to the American Film Market next month with a big-name sales agency attached.
Studio 100 Film is managing international sales for the CG-animated project, which was announced today as a co-pro between Australia’s Cheeky Little (Vegesaurs) and UK-based Cantilever Media (The Amazing Maurice). Currently at the financing and development stage, The Last Dodo (85 minutes) is expected to premiere sometime in 2027.
Set in 1628 London, it follows Dave the Dodo—the last remaining member of the flightless bird species—as he learns to overcome his fear of flying with a little help from his bestie, a street-smart rat.
Father-and-son duo Simon and Tristan Dodd (Kangaroo Beach) penned this original story back in 2018, according to Simon’s LinkedIn, and Cheeky Little quietly optioned it at some point since. Jun Falkenstein (The Tigger Movie, the Stillwater series) is in the director’s seat on the project.
American Film Market will run from November 11 to 16 this year in Los Angeles. It attracted more than 5,500 attendees in 2024, including nearly 500 buying companies from 63 countries.
