20th Century is turning a spooky Roblox game into a film

99 Nights In The Forest is the latest title from the platform to get the screen treatment.

Roblox-born IPs are securing film and TV deals left and right, as studios are increasingly banking on the game-making platform to find their next big hit.

The most recent game to make the leap is barely a year old. 20th Century Studios has acquired the theatrical rights to 99 Nights In The Forest from New Zealand-based developer Grandma’s Favourite Games.

As hinted by the title, the game has a spooky premise where players must survive 99 nights in the wilderness—which involves gathering supplies, escaping creatures and rescuing four kids who got lost. The game has a Minimal rating label, suggesting that it’s geared toward all ages, with violence being mild for the most part.

99 Nights debuted in March 2025 and managed to quickly attract a massive player base. It’s currently one of the most popular games on Roblox, having notched around 26 billion visits to date and achieved an all-time peak player count of 14.2 million.

The founders of Grandma’s Favourite Games, Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton and Cameron Angland, are attached to the film as EPs. Meanwhile, J.R. Young (mostly credited on adult-driven horror films like the Poltergeist and Evil Dead reboots) will oversee the production for 20th Century.

Whether the film will double down on the game’s kid-accessible thrills or try something a little edgier remains to be seen. “99 Nights in the Forest has already connected with millions of players worldwide, and we’re excited to build on that foundation for audiences everywhere,” said David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, potentially indicating a four-quadrant target audience.

99 Nights joins a long list of Roblox games getting recent movie adaptations, including heavy-hitters Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot from Story Kitchen, Jailbreak from Wind Sun Sky and multiple titles in the works at Baobab Studios.
