BBC Studios’ Andrew Carley is leaving the business
Carley, BBC Studios’ director of consumer products for the UK and EMEA, who helped build Bluey into the massive global brand it is today, is leaving the company, Kidscreen has confirmed. Carley joined BBC Studios back in 2021. Bluey is now one of the strongest brands in the world and a leader in the preschool toy market, a spokesperson for BBC tells Kidscreen. The brand hasn’t seen any new episodes lately, and its first feature film isn’t coming out until 2027, but the BBC is keeping the IP fresh through content on digital and linear, the spokesperson notes. Before joining BBC Studios, Carley worked on Entertainment One’s licensing team, where he worked to grow Peppa Pig from a small brand into a licensing mega-hit. Murilo Hinojosa, VP of consumer products and commercial partnerships, will cover his role by taking on an extended remit including UK/EMEA, alongside his current LatAm duties.
WEBTOON Entertainment reorganizes
WEBTOON, the global webcoming platform, has eliminated its chief operating officer role, and company president Yongsoo Kim will take on those duties. The company has created a chief business officer position and named Leah Goeun Yeon to that role. She has experience in e-commerce and financial companies and is tasked with leading global growth. The company has also tapped one of its technology chiefs, Teo Taeyeong Jang, to serve as head of AI, with the aim of expanding how WEBTOON uses the tech to improve content, discoverability and translation services. And David Lee, the company’s chief financial officer, is taking the reins as president of Wattpad, the company’s platform for text-based stories. WEBTOON reached 160 million active monthly users in more than 150 countries in December, and brands are increasingly turning to the platform as a place for building brands and finding hot properties to adapt.
