Japanese video game giant Nintendo is gearing up to expand its international retail footprint next year by opening its second official US storefront in San Francisco, California.

The new store, called Nintendo San Francisco, will be located in the city’s iconic Union Square commercial hub. The nearly three-acre shopping district already hosts several major department stores and boutiques, including Macy’s, the Disney Store, and Nike and Apple outlets.

This expansion has been brewing for decades—the gaming company opened its first US location, Nintendo New York (pictured), in 2005. The 10,000-square-foot store in New York’s Rockefeller Center features two floors of gaming-themed merchandise, including branded apparel, Mario Kart Hot Wheels, Animal Crossing LEGO construction sets, Pokémon plush and Nintendo Switch game consoles.

In addition to its US-based shops, Nintendo also operates three storefronts in Japan—located in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto—that host monthly events themed around the company’s latest game releases. For example, recent meet-and-greets with Princess Peach celebrated the launch of Princess Peach: Showtime! in March.
