Spacetoon, one of the biggest kids & family broadcasters in the MENA region, has signed on to co-develop Toikido’s action-fantasy IP Battalor into a three-season 2D-animated series and special that it will air.
The first 10 x 22-minute season of this action-adventure toon should deliver in spring 2027, followed by the next two spring 2028 and spring 2029. And the 45-minute special has been designed to air between seasons two and three. Spacetoon will launch everything in the package on its linear channel, as well as on streaming service Spacetoon Go.
Toikido had the Battalor series set up with Jellyfish Originals, but that agreement fell through when Jellyfish Pictures was shut down in March.
Aimed at kids ages six to 11, the series concept has strong toyetic potential baked in, given its focus on a group of young heroes who duke it out with mechanical creatures. Spacetoon is the lead broadcaster across MENA and Türkiye (the country’s preferred name), but Toikido is looking for additional broadcasting and streaming partners, as well as co-producers and licensing and retail distribution partners.
Toikido has managed to parlay a business model of building franchises around Roblox and NFT properties into several deals over the last few years. Its flagship IP is Piñata Smashlings, a Roblox-first brand that grew into a range of products and a series with Nelvana. The company has also been building up its relationship with Spacetoon lately. In August, the broadcaster picked up Beep Boop, a CG-animated series for six to nines about a crew of cute vending machine prizes living in Tokyo.
Toikido describes Battalor as its “most ambitious IP to date”. But it’s also working on several other projects, including an animated universe based on the web3 kids brand Bad Egg Co.
